⛳ 9 Sim Build Tips from the Experts

Building a sim setup is no small feat—from mastering throw distances to wrangling cables, there’s a LOT to consider. Raise your hand if you too would like a sim build masterclass... 🙋‍♂️

We don't have that, but we have the next best thing—we watched hours of sim tips videos so you don’t have to! Here’s our quick-hit guide to set up like a pro.

  1. Avoid the dreaded indoor golf syndrome. Think spacious! You'll want a minimum 10-foot ceiling and 9-foot width for a swing that's anything but cramped. (Source: Handicap Golf)

  2. Channel your inner electrician. Map out your power sources for a frustration-free setup—your whole layout depends on where your power is! (Source: Scott Hogan)

  3. Screen first! Prioritize your screen setup first—it’ll be easier to buy the right projector and mat once you know your screen size. (Source: Joe from Ace Indoor Golf) Check out our roundup from last week to find fan favorite screens!

  4. Ditch the shadows. Invest in a short-throw projector to avoid casting unwanted shadows on your screen. (Source: Handicap Golf)

  5. Space is precious, so maximize it! Impact screens (when installed correctly) can be a mere 7-8 inches from the wall. (Source: Joe from Ace Indoor Golf)

  6. Cable chaos? Not on our watch! Keep things clean by hiding those pesky cords. Consider installing ceiling sockets for your projector – aesthetics matter too! (Source: Scott Hogan)

  7. Ensure smooth readings! Radar launch monitors are sensitive to interference, so avoid metal frames, magnetic ballasts in lighting, and fans in the area. (Source: Joe from Ace Indoor Golf)

  8. Say goodbye to slipping and sliding! Embed your hitting mat into the turf for a stable foundation. No more mid-swing stumbles here! (Source: Handicap Golf)

  9. Putting practice makes perfect! Elevate your putting game by adding a putting mat to your setup. (Source: Ben Lumsden Golf)

🤔 AITA for not canceling my golf trip on my girlfriend's birthday?

I've been going on an annual golf trip with friends for 20 years, which overlaps with my girlfriend's birthday this year. I told her six months ago and suggested celebrating on another weekend, but she wanted me to cancel. I went ahead and booked it anyway, as these friends are significant to me and we meet only once a year. Now, the issue has come up again as her birthday nears. AITA for preferring the trip over being home on her actual birthday?
