šŸŒļø What Golf Sim Fans Love (and Hate) About TGL

It’s an off week for TGL, so we thought it would be the perfect time to check in with r/golfsimulator and ask: What’s the verdict on TGL? The forum DELIVERED, offering everything from high praise to brutal honesty.

Here’s the top 5 things users LOVE, the top 5 things they want to see changed, and the top 4 improvement ideas.

P.S. you can get in on the forum fun here!

5 Things People Love About TGL

1. The Concept is Fresh and Exciting

With Tiger and Rory at the helm of TGL, the anticipation was big. And for the most part, Redditors feel like they actually delivered on their promise of a bold new golf league.

Fans are loving the idea of a high-energy, tech-infused format. This isn’t your granddad’s country club golf—TGL is bringing an electric, fast-paced vibe that feels more like courtside seats at an NBA game.

2. Mic’d-Up Pros Make It More Engaging

There’s nothing better than watching elite golfers have fun. When a PGA player shouts ā€œget loose babyā€ and busts out a shimmy, you know you’re watching something different. Hearing these guys talk through shots, chirp each other, and react in real time is quite a departure from your regularly scheduled golf broadcasts.

It’s real, it’s entertaining, and it’s exactly the kind of personality injection the sport needs.

ā€œThe format is great, and seeing these guys rag on each other and interact mic’d up is great for golf.ā€ – u/Mediocre_pylut

3. High-Profile Matchups Deliver Drama

When the games are close, TGL is electric. While some matches have been lopsided, when two stacked teams go head-to-head, the energy is undeniable. The Jupiter vs. Boston showdown? Hands-down the best match of the league so far. It proved that when the matchups are right, it’s must-watch TV.

ā€œThe only night it was exciting was when Tigers team played Rory’s team - it was close and both teams have some interesting characters. However, I’ve watched and enjoyed it every week so far - it’s neat seeing these big names playing and sometimes getting stung by indoor technology.ā€ -u/bsachris

4. It’s a Fun Weeknight Distraction

Not everything has to be Augusta-level intensity, okay? TGL is giving golf fans something to look forward to midweek—a laid-back but still competitive spectacle. Whether you’re fully locked in or just need background entertainment while you unwind, it’s a solid option for golf junkies craving a little extra action between weekend rounds.

"It’s fun for a Tuesday. Just more golf to watch." – u/GeppetoOnDVD

5. It’s Golf… But Different

Say what you want, but TGL is at least trying something new. It’s shaking up the sport, making golf more accessible to casual viewers, and opening up a fresh lane for simulator-based competition. Sure, it’s not perfect, but you have to respect the ambition. If they keep tweaking and improving, TGL could be a serious game-changer.

"I look forward to TGL Tuesdays now tbh. Love it." – u/HawgHeaven

5 Things Fans Hate / Want to See Changed

1. The Tech Needs Major Upgrades

For a league that leans into its high-tech appeal, Redditors are finding that the tech itself is not "up to par." Ball tracking is inconsistent, launch monitor data sometimes seems off, and fans have a hard time following where shots actually land. When you’re promised cutting-edge technology but get wonky visuals, that’s a tough pill to swallow.

ā€œThe camera tracking visuals of the ball flight suck. Hard to tell where the ball is going to land.ā€ – u/KingPitiful84

ā€œWhy aren’t they leaning into the tech more? I want real time stats, flaming balls, and fan-submitted holesā€ -u/slaughterhousevibe

2. The Hammer Rule is a Total Flop

I’ve yet to see anyone who actually likes the Hammer rule. While it was designed to be a game-changing twist, it’s turned out to be a non-factor. The strategic value isn’t there, and as a result, the team with the hammer typically clings onto it for the entire match. Fans have been quick to point out that, mathematically, it’s almost never worth deploying. If a game-changing mechanic isn’t actually changing the game, what’s the point?

ā€œThey need to fix the hammer. Force usage of it after 3 holes, give it to the trailing team entering singles, something. There’s so much talk about it and it’s barely usedā€ -u/prh8

3. The Course Designs Are Bland

Listen, some of the courses are neat, but Redditors are fired up about the lack of imagination. They expected mind-blowing, virtual-only elements—crazy elevation changes, wild risk-reward shots, futuristic obstacles—but instead got… regular golf holes? TGL has the freedom to create anything, so why does it feel more constrained than real-world layouts?

ā€œthey need to lean more into the fact that this is Virtual Golf and they are not constrained by standard course landscaping or even outdoor aesthetics. I think they are trying, at least for this season, to make it more like "indoor golf" than some crazy new game.ā€ -u/trustworthysauce

4. The Broadcast Lacks Key Information

TGL has the potential to be data-rich, but the broadcast doesn’t reflect that. Fans want real-time stats—club selection, shot shape, ball speed, distance, spin. Instead, they’re left squinting at the background scoreboard, missing out on the kind of analytics that make simulator golf fun to follow. The broadcast needs to be as tech-driven as the format itself.

"Would like to see their stats on the right side like a normal simulator." – u/AldoRainn

5. LPGA Players Need to Be Included

This is a big one. Fans see a major opportunity for TGL to be more inclusive by integrating LPGA players into the mix. It would diversify the competition, bring in new audiences, and make the league feel more representative of the golf world as a whole. Right now, it feels like a boys' club, and that’s a missed opportunity.

ā€œAdd LPGA players.ā€ -u/only-once-2024

Top 4 Improvement Ideas (TGL, take notes!)

  • More Data & Strategy Insights – Show putting reads, a leaderboard for fastest swing speed, and highlight whether players are shaping shots or hitting them straight. Let viewers see the players’ aiming screen and hear them describe their intended shot. – u/only-once-2024

  • Dynamic Course Adjustments – Implement Golfzon-style tilting floors to simulate different lie angles. The green also needs variety—right now, it’s just one large plateau with minimal adjustments. – u/simpsator

  • Amateur vs. Pro Showdowns – Create a ā€œJoes vs. Schmoesā€ format where top amateur teams compete in a qualifying round for the chance to face a pro team in the finals. Online sim golf tournaments could be a feeder system. – u/hamburgersink

  • Dedicated Home Arenas – Expand the concept so each team has its own unique home arena, green, or even a custom course. – u/themiddleshoe
