The Sim Setup You’ll Want to Copy 👀

What happens when you realize mid-home build that you need a golf simulator? For Brandon, it meant adding a third garage bay and creating a space that’s as much about improving his game as it is about hosting friends. We chatted with Brandon Williams about how he turned his vision into a reality—and he offers advice for anyone planning their own dream setup.

Where did you invest the most in your simulator build, and what made that area a priority?

The bulk of my money went to the launch monitor. I initially started with a Mevo+, then after about seven months, I moved to a BLP for a few weeks. I finally ended up with the Uneekor Eye XO. I am thrilled with it—the accuracy is amazing, the impact camera and video are great, and I love everything about it so far. I went with the Uneekor for three reasons. First and foremost, accuracy. Second, overhead mounting allows for lefties and righties to play. And third, the cameras at impact—there’s no visual shot delay. I’m a bad golfer and the idea with the sim is to improve my game.

In your opinion, what part of a simulator setup is most important for creating the best experience?

The most important part of a simulator is having the required space—you need to be able to hit all your clubs. I was in the middle of building a house when I decided I needed help with my golf game, so I just added a third bay to my garage and told the contractor what I needed for ceiling height and dimensions. So far, so good.

Did you include any DIY elements in your build? If so, what were they and how did they work out?

I’m not a DIY guy, so anything I've done has been very minimal—hanging a few shelves for additional monitors, adding a shelf for my Bluetooth speaker, and a phone charging station for guests.

You selected GSPro and the Uneekor Eye XO—what led you to choose these components?

GSPro really seems like a no-brainer as far as sim software goes. At $250/year for everything it offers, it’s incredible. The Uneekor was my target from the get-go based on accuracy and the ability to improve my game with their software and cameras.

What made you decide to go with The Indoor Golf Shop for your enclosure and hitting mat? How have they performed for you?

I researched everything there was out there in terms of enclosures and hitting mats—there was no consensus as to the best overall. But there was one company that kept showing up on lists of the best in their categories, and it was The Indoor Golf Shop, especially the SIG Softy. I pulled the trigger, and I've been very, very happy with both.

If you could upgrade any part of your simulator, what would it be and why?

Right now, I'm pretty happy with my setup. I’d say if there was one part I would upgrade, it would be my projector. I have a good projector—5,000 lumens and 1080p—but I wouldn't mind upgrading to a 4K laser at some point in the future.

What’s your favorite feature of your simulator setup, and what makes it special?

I'm actually very, very proud of my setup. The one thing I'm most proud of is it becoming a place where friends can come over, hang out for a few hours, and have a stress-free time. I spent way too much money on this setup to be used by myself—I always wanted it to be a place others could enjoy, and it’s becoming that.

Were there any unexpected challenges or costs that came up during the building process?

There were no unexpected costs or problems in getting it put together because of the exhaustive research I put into everything before embarking on the journey. The biggest challenge was mounting the Eye XO to the ceiling, but that was because I'm not a handyman at all.

What advice would you give someone planning their own golf simulator build?

My advice is to research, research, research. Ask for advice from people who have simulators, set a budget, and get your wife or significant other onboard with the project. I'd like to say my wife Julie has been amazing through the whole process, and it would have never happened without her. If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer to the best of my ability. Feel free to email me at [email protected].

Thanks to Brandon for letting us feature his setup!

Our Key Takeaways
