⛳ How to Play Oakmont on Your Simulator

Didn’t qualify for the U.S. Open like high schooler Mason Howell? Yeah… us neither. But don’t worry—you can still get in on the action by teeing it up at the legendary Oakmont Country Club from home.

With a little help from Carl’s Place, here’s how to bring Pennsylvania’s finest to your screen:

  • GSPro: Open the community course library, search “Oakmont Country Club,” and download.

  • E6 Connect: Part of the premium lineup—just click and play (if your subscription includes it).

  • TGC 2019: Use the search bar to find Oakmont. These are community-created, so quality varies—but some versions are 🔥.

Plus, you can also play the course on Foresight—it’s on sale right now for $125!

⚠️ What to Watch For

Oakmont doesn’t play nice—even in pixel form. Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • Lightning-fast greens: Oakmont’s greens are infamous. On a sim, they’re usually set to “tour” or “championship” speed by default. That means uphill putts still roll out, and lag putting is key.

  • Church pew bunkers: Those iconic, deep, narrow bunkers on holes like 3 and 4 are no joke.

  • Tight Fairways & Penal Rough: Oakmont’s fairways are narrow and often sloped. Miss them, and you're in thick stuff. Use a 3W or hybrid if your driver dispersion is wide.

🏌️‍♂️Warm Up Like the Fan Favorites

Before you take on Oakmont’s brutal greens and beastly bunkers… let’s warm up. But not just any warmup—we’ve got drills straight from four of ESPN’s top picks to win the U.S. Open. Try these at home on your sim and channel your inner major champ.

Scottie Scheffler: Backswing Checkpoint Drill

Want a Tour-level backswing? Scottie keeps it simple:

  • Stick an alignment rod (or pencil!) into the end of your grip

  • Swing to the top and check your club’s position

  • The stick gives instant visual feedback on whether you’re dialed or… not so much

Bryson DeChambeau: Bunker Practice Hack

Bryson’s go-to indoor drill for dialing in bunker shots:

  • Place a strip of painter’s tape on your hitting mat

  • The goal? Clip the front edge of the tape to ensure your divot is in front of the ball

  • It’s a weirdly satisfying way to clean up your contact

Smooth. Powerful. Controlled. Rory’s drill helps you feel every stage of the swing:

  • Place your lead hand at the top of the grip, trail hand at the bottom

  • Swing back, turn down, and feel that sweet transition

  • Bonus tip: Keep that trail elbow in front of your body the whole time

Collin Morikawa: Punch Shot Ball Striking

Collin’s known for pure strikes, and this drill is all about center-face contact:

  • Take a normal backswing, then stop your follow-through around waist height

  • You’ll feel what crisp contact really means—on center and deadly accurate
