⛳ Debunking the Bunker Shot

Listen, we’re all about getting the MOST bang for our buck with our sim space, and that means mastering our bunker shots. If your bunker game has been less than subpar lately, you’re not alone. Here are some top tips—from things you can try TODAY to gear that’ll simulate that tricky sand trap experience.

  1. The Problem: Standing too close to the ball, and standing too tall.

  2. Key Tip: Stay low and keep the handle down throughout your swing. This helps to improve your launch angle and effectively utilize bounce. Once the sim says your launch angle is between 40 to 50 degrees, you’re ready to go forth and conquer those bunkers.

Needed: An Old Towel: Fitzy Golf Pro’s Towel Trick

  1. Common Problem: Hitting behind the ball.

  2. Key Tip: Fold an old towel in half and place it on your hitting mat to simulate sand. When you hit the towel, it bunches up, mimicking the feel of the bunker. This simple trick can make a big difference!

Small Purchase, Big Impact: Mr. Short Game’s Pocket Bunker Find

  1. The Product: The Pocket Bunker is a small device with legs that elevate a foam golf ball. It might seem gimmicky, but the comments on Mr. Short Game’s video prove it really works! While not specifically designed for simulators, Mr. Short Game uses it indoors, so you can too.

  2. Technique: This little gadget helps you practice hitting an inch behind the ball—you aim for the legs and “sweep them out” to perfect your swing.

  1. The Product: It’s basically a thick piece of carpet with a rubbery bottom surface, designed to add resistance to your simulator sand shots.

  2. Technique: Another gadget that helps you practice hitting underneath the ball, this mat slides when you hit a “correct” shot. Scott’s consensus? While it doesn’t quite have the resistance of sand, it’s a solid step towards simulating bunker shots indoors!

Better yet, just fill a sled with sand like these guys! It’s giving “4D movie for your golf sim.” It’s definitely realistic!
